West Metro Family Village
The West Metro Village will meet on the 1st Sunday of the month from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at: First Baptist Church of Minneapolis
Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to ensure adequate staffing for our youth programming. Registration is free for families who have adopted Minnesota Waiting Children. For all other families, registration is $10 per child, per Village (we do not charge for adult attendance). If you are unsure whether you have adopted a Minnesota Waiting Child, or would like more information about our fees, click here. You may register online using our secure server, by coming to our offices in person, or by mailing a registration form (PDF or Word).
Amy and Alan Ames are parents to 13 children -- 4 by birth, 6 by adoption from foster care, and 3 by foster care. Their children range in age from 1 to 19. Amy is the MN ASAP East Metro Parent Liaison. Alan is a special education teacher for St. Paul Public Schools at Boys Totem Town, a juvenile correctional facility.
Please plan to arrive 10 minutes early. You will need that time to sign in, bring children to child care, and get settled in the parent group. We will make every effort to start on time. If you arrive after the groups have started, please enter quietly, bring children to child care, and join the parent group.
For the most part, we have a first-come, first-served system. However, because of our funding through the Minnesota Department of Human Services, we reserve slots in all Harambee programs for families of children adopted from Minnesota’s foster care system.
Lot parking is available.
Our Youth Mentors have a wide variety of professional backgrounds including education, mental health and advocacy. In addition, some of our Youth Mentors are adult adoptees or adoptive parents. NACAC runs background checks on all youth mentors.
